About Angioma Alliance Angioma Alliance is a non-profit tax exempt volunteer organization that provides education and support for those affected by cavernous angioma of the brain and spine. We have a website that provides accurate information about the illness; we publish patient education brochures; we promote research by advertising ongoing studies and hosting scientific meetings; and we offer support through our message board, list serv, toll free number, and annual patient conferences. A cavernous angioma is a cluster of abnormal blood vessels in the brain or spine that can hemorrhage and cause seizure, headache, and neurological deficits. 1 in 100-200 people has a cavernous angioma, and approximately 30% of these will have symptoms at some time in their life. Both children and adults can be affected, and at least 20% of people with the illness have a genetic form that can be passed from generation to generation. The only cure is brain or spinal surgery. |
