Laura Talbot, Pastels
During the past two decades, Laura has been exhibiting her work in various shows, galleries, competitions and auctions. Most of her pieces of artwork are now represented in private collections. Laura's work has been displayed in the Lone Pine Film Museum, The Inyo Council for the Arts, her husbands Veterinary Hospital and The Northern Inyo Hospital, locally, and even has work displayed as far away as Scotland. She has received numerous awards for her work. In 2007 she received Best of Show at the Tri County Fair and in the same year received a first and a second place in the Western States Horse Expo art show in Sacramento California. Even though she has been painting for over 30 years, Laura has learned more about the pastel medium by taking workshops from Colleen Howe, Dawn Emerson, and Sally Strand. She says "I am truly inspired by the knowledge, creativity and discipline of these fine women artists, I have learned something different from each of them. They have motivated me to move forward and challenge myself while creating my own unique style." The subject of most Laura's work centers on people, animals and the ranching way of life. She is constantly challenging herself to capture the personality, emotion and character of the person or animal, as well as the human animal bond.
Laura and her family live in the Eastern Sierra's of California and own and operate a cattle ranch in the Owens Valley. They have four children and have been foster parents for many years. Laura will tell you she has spent most of her life taking care of kids and animals. When she isn't caring for them she enjoys everything about the water, teaching a variety of classes, including Lifeguarding, swim lessons and water aerobics.
Laura is always inspired by the life around her. She says "Observing the light bouncing off my old cat sitting in the sun, or the smile on my labs face when retrieving a stick or watching the wobbly legs of a newborn calf, or the expression on a face, excite and inspire me to paint. I love the life God has given me and I am thankful for the gift of being able to share some of those moments through art."
