Started in 1993 by Diane Dietrich, Blue Hills Dog & Cat Shoppe was the first natural dog and cat food store in Colorado.  With over 30 years experience working with animals, Diane has had the opportunity to love, care for and feed thousands of dogs and cats: owning and managing a large boarding kennel, designing and conducting obedience and puppy kindergarten classes, operating a doggy daycare and showing dogs.

In the 1980's, dismayed with the declining health of our best friends, she began researching (with the aid of several veterinarians) nutrition and chemical additives in pet foods.  Unsatisfied with the availablity of natural foods in the area, she started Blue Hills Dog & Cat Shoppe to provide people the opportunity to buy pet foods free of 4D meats (dead, diseased, dying and disabled), chemical preservatives (BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin, propylene glycol, etc.), sugars, and artificial flavors and colors.  No product in the store has or ever will contain any of these potentially hazardous ingredients.  These strict standards are why the store was completely unaffected by the recall in 2007.

Diane currently has four dogs: three German Shepherds - Nick, Tia and Mari, and one Corgi - Trevor.

Carly Rugg began working at Blue Hills Dog & Cat Shoppe in 1999 and has since become a partner in the business.  In addition to many years of caring for animals, Carly has studied at the Lang Institute for Canine Massage and is a certified animal massage therapist.

Carly currently has three dogs and two cats: two Miniture Daschunds - Dixie and Dino,  a Beagle - Bert, and the cats - Tag and Kitty.

Whisper is our store cat.  Adopted from the humane society nine years ago, he is now nineteen and enjoys greeting customers and doing tricks such as sitting up and "high-five."
