This light weight fabric "floats" over the crops you want to protect from frosts, insects, birds and animals. As a physical barrier it prevents these harmful pests from feasting on your plants. The light weights allows it to float on tops of your plants without harming them. Just bury one edge with soil or hold down with staples or rocks and the other side use an item that you can remove easily so that you can adjust the amount of the fabric that is over the plants to allow for growth.
