How long will it take to get my new McAdoo Rug?
That depends! We have many of the rugs you see in stock, and some may need to be made to order. Rugs which are in stock will ship the next business day after the order has been processed.
Rugs that are not in stock will be put into production the next business day after your order has been processed. Lead time can be as little as 4 weeks, and as long as 3 months depending on a number of factors, including rug size and time of year...we do have seasonal fluctuations. No matter how long it takes, you will not be dissapointed! How do I clean my McAdoo Rug?
Here is how it should be done: |
1. Soak rug in very hot water and one cup of liquid Tide for at least 2 hours. Use enough water just to cover the rug. 2. After the two hours, or longer (even overnight, whatever is convenient for you), add as much hot water as your tub will hold. The deeper the water the more the rug will float and the easier it will be to swish around.
3. Get in the tub and gently and slowly do the twist on the rug with your feet and watch the dirt come out. This takes about 30 seconds. 4. Let all the soapy water out of the tub, and then fill the tub up fully and swish it around with your feet two more times. You can use cool water if you want for these rinses. Your water should be quite clear by now. 5. Prop the rug up on broom handles across your tub and let it drip until it is light enough to be easy to handle, then hang your rug up on a fence or clothes dryer until it is all dry. - Or - You can clean your rug (up to 20 square feet) in a front loading washing machine if it has a knit or delicate cycle using a very small amount of liquid Tide and hot water. |
Will you clean my McAdoo Rug for me?

Absolutely! We clean and make repairs to many McAdoo Rugs every week for a very reasonable fee. Just box your rug and ship it back to us at the mill, and we'll get it taken care of. Be sure to put a note in the box with shipping and billing information for us, as well as any repair requests you may have.
Are you GREEN?
McAdoo Rugs is green...Here's why:
þ Wool is a 100% renewable & sustainable source for our major material.
þ Our backing is 100% cotton monk's cloth. This fiber is natural, renewable and not made of petroleum-based material, as is the backing for many rugs made over-seas.
þ We do not use liquid latex backing that:
1. Is extremely toxic to employees during application
2. Hampers future washing efforts
3. Traps dirt which grinds against wool fibers, shortening the rugs life
4. Allows for rugs with a shorter pile, and thus a lower quality rug
þ We support a local economy by employing all American employees, many of whom would not be otherwise easily employable. Some of our staff has a variety of disabilities that make it difficult to work in public or they have young children that would require daycare if working parents had to go in to work; as most of our employees work out of their homes, these issues do not hamper productivity. We truly are a cottage industry and we will never outsource overseas...ever.
þ Our colors are achieved using non-metalized dyes from Ciba-Geigy. These are the most environmentally friendly, fade resistant & colorfast colorants on the market today. Most rugs manufactured over-seas use dyes containing heavy metals which are toxic to the employees who are working with them, and whose effluence has horrific consequences for the environment.
þ Our wool is dyed using a long boiling method which consumes nearly 100% of the dye, and thus our effluence, or waste water, is just about completely clean and has been EPA approved for municipal waste water treatment processing. Since we are on town water & sewer, 100% of our waste water is treated at a county operated treatment plant and approved by the county, state & EPA before being returned as purified water to the ground water table.
þ We recycle. Our mill employees recycle nearly all metal, plastic, glass & paper we consume. We re-use our corrugated cardboard boxes many times, and then recycle them when they become unusable.
þ We purchase & utilize as many post-consumer recycled products as we can, including cardboard, tissue, paper, cans & glass.
þ Nearly 80% of the mill's interior lighting is full spectrum florescent, providing both energy efficiency and properly balanced light for design work. During periods of bright daylight, our abundant windows & skylights provide most of the light required, so many of the lights are off!
Are you philanthropic?
You bet! Our philanthropy mission is simply stated:
Educate where we can, and reduce the suffering of others where we must.
McAdoo Rugs is committed to giving back to the community which has given so much to us. This commitment is expressed in donations to local, national and international organizations the world over.

These outstanding organizations are comprised of passionate people committed to addressing the critical needs of people, young and old. By inspiring communities, states and nations, by motivating individuals and organizations, by equipping local leaders with programs and facilities, we will make a difference in the lives of millions.
We live in an exciting time of discovery. New treatments and technologies that offer tremendous promise are within our reach. Stem cell research for example, offers tremendous potential to treat disease and disorders that today, have no current therapies or at best, partially effective ones. Programs contributing to the progress of this research are the prologue to an era of medical discovery of cell-based therapies. One day these therapies will restore the promise of full lives to those whose lives today are truncated by critical illness.
Philanthropy is a business in which we are CFOs for God. A responsible approach, balanced with passionate desire to change the world for the better is a worthy endeavor, not only for the wealthy, but for all who take up the challenge of making a difference. We choose organizations to be recipients of donations that are dedicated to the treatment of cancer and cancer research, education of our youth, relief from unexpected events, as well as the treatment of substance abuse.
