Updated January 12, 2012
Seeds ship year round. There is no minimum order and shipping is free. We produce all of our seeds right here on our farm. We do not buy and re-sell seeds, as most seed companies do. We are in control of the process from seed, through germination and growth, to seed harvest, drying, and testing.
We have many new varieties for 2012. We have expanded our offerings by at least 60 new varieties, including tomatoes, lots of new peppers (sweet and hot), eggplant, beans, corn, sorghum, cow peas, okra, melons, cucumbers, turnips, etc.

Most of our seeds are heirloom varieties. All of our seeds are open pollinated, which means that you can save seeds and next year's plants will grow true to type. All of our seeds are produced by us right here on our farm in accordance with accepted commercial seed production standards and isolation distances, and we are licensed to sell our own seed by the State of Missouri (License #149045.) We germination test all of our seeds and exceed the Federal minimum germination standards guidelines. Germination test results are posted with each seed description. We want you to know that you are getting quality seeds when you order from us. We gaurantee our seed to be vigorous and grow true to type. Our seeds are produced in healthy soil using sustainable* methods.
We ship seed orders within 48 hours if paid by PayPal or money order. For personal checks, we ship when your check clears our bank, usually in about one week.

Plants
ship weekly from late March through late May. We are currently accepting orders for  the 2012 growing season. We will contact you to arrange a shipping date when you place your order.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND:
BUY 5 PLANTS, GET 1 FREE!!!
For every 5 plants you order, we will give you one plant free. Order 10 plants and get two free, etc. You can request a variety that you want, or we will pick one out for you . Type your choice in the PayPal memo box when checking out or e-mail us your choice to lazyoxfarm@yahoo.com. Please include your name and e-mail address.

We have many exciting new varieties of plants to offer for 2012, including tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, stevia, lemon grass, and plenty of others.
Our plants are produced by us in our own greenhouse using our own organic soil mix.  We are an inspected and licensed nursery by the State of Missouri (License #1931). We use only organic products in the growing and maintaining of our plants (and seeds). For more information, click on the "About our Plants" tab up above.

Your success is our success, so we do our absolute best to ship you the highest quality plants and seeds of varieties that have proven themselves superior for home garden production and enjoyment.

About Late Blight

We did not experience the late blight epidemic that destroyed most tomato plants in the North Eastern part of the country in 2009. Many of our customers lost their plants to the blight that showed up early, rather than late as its name implies. The blight was actually traced to plants sold by some of the Big Box retailers in the region. The cool, wet weather contributed to the devastating effects.  We are sorry for all of you who were  affected by the blight.  Please try again this year. Late Blight doesn't come around  all that often, so unless you have anther cool, wet summer you probably won't  get it again this year.

What can you do about late blight?  Not much, unfortunately. You can try growing our new tomato variety, Legend, which was bred for resistance to late blight. You can spray with copper and baking soda products weekly. Provide plenty of air circulation around the plants. Don't crowd them or let them flop on the ground. Prune the plants so they don't grow too thickly. Do a thorough fall garden clean up and destroy (do not compost) infected plants. Burn them or bag them and throw them out.  But mostly, pray for sunnier, warmer weather.

We accept major credit cards and bank cards through PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account. We also accept checks and money orders.

If you don't want to use PayPal to purchase your order, you can find our products on the Local Harvest website at www.localharvest.org/farms/M31109 . They accept major credit cards without going through PayPal.

Customer Comments:

"Just wanted to let you know the tomato plants arrived safe and sound and looking really good.  I must say I’ve ordered lots of plants by mail, but your packing far exceeds any other.  Thank you for taking such good care of them."

"Thanks so much for your great service and products!  And special thanks for the free tomato plant.  I am so pleased with your prompt service and the quality,  not to mention receiving  plants so carefully packaged they survived the journey all the way out here to California with flying colors.  I just placed another order for myself and one to be shipped to my sister Karen who is on a seriously tight budget (as many folks are these days).  I will be giving you all of my vegetable plant business from now on."

  "Hello Margie,
On Thursday afternoon, I received my 1'st ever order from your company.
Six "GOLIATH" 'mater plants. And I'm here to tell ya Margie, the plants look great,
AND the packing was outstanding!
Your printed planting/growing instructions, that were included with my order,
Brought more than a single smile, to this ol' mater grower's face!
Seems that I've been doing it your way,
For several decades now."

"Thanks so much for the quick shipping and beautiful  plants!  Much nicer than anything I hvae gotten from Burpee!!!"

"We have received our plants and they are beautiful.  We will enjoy our veggies this year and order from you again next year.
 God's peace be yours"

"Just a quick note to say THANK YOU for my beautiful plants, and for your thoughtfulness to include the two extras.  I especially like the Koralik, since my grandparents emigrated here from Russia :)
Thanks again, and have a happy summer,
Amy
PS See you next year!"

"I received my Amish Paste tomato plants on Wed and got them planted that evening.  Thank you for shipping them out so quickly.  They're beautiful, sturdy plants and I was delighted to find someone that sold them.  This was the third year I started tomatoes from seed (Amish Paste tomato plants are not to be found locally), but I just don't seem to have the knack for seed starting, and this year's batch was exceptionally dismal.  Now that I know about Lazy Ox Farm, I won't have to worry with all that next spring!  Thank you also for the extra plant you sent along.  I've never even heard of an Orange Banana (sounds like a knock-knock joke) tomato variety -- I'm looking forward to trying it."

"Everything came in a timely manner. Thanks for the extra plant.
I am so happy to have found your site. "

"Received very healthy, well-packed plants, delivered on time. They have a great selection, including some unusual varieties, and their customer service is excellent. Will definitely order again."

"This was my first time ordering from Lazy Ox Farm, but it won't be my last. My plants arrived in excellent condition, and they seem to be very healthy."

 * What does "sustainable" mean to us?  We grow organically, but choose not to be certified, so we cannot claim to be organic, even though we are. We believe that our methods are "beyond organic" because we produce almost all of our soil's fertility and tilth right here on our farm. We believe that a healthy, vigorous soil teaming with life produces healthy, vigorous plants that promote healthy, vigorous people and a healthy planet. Therefore, we concentrate on improving our soil through a program of cover cropping, crop rotation, applying our own compost, mulching with straw, (earthworms love it), and occasionally applying rock powders if called for on a soil test. We apply no poisons to our soil, organic or otherwise. If pests appear in numbers that are too damaging, we use cultural controls as a first choice for defense (floating row covers, hand picking, etc.)  If stronger methods are called for we use the mildest, organic sprays available (insecticidal soap, diatomaceous earth, BT, Spinosad.)  For disease control we use a copper soap product. We love our beneficial insects, and often forego spraying to spare them. They reward us by often controlling the pest. When we do spray, we do so very carefully to avoid harming the native bees and the honeybees that a neighbor keeps on our farm.
If you have any questions about our methods or are looking for specific advice, we would love to hear from you. Our phone number and e-mail address are above.                               Happy Gardening!
