The WAVES AND CHICKS shower curtain is a one-of-a-kind. White, gauze-like cotton is deconstructed (ripped into strips), then reconstructed (the strips are then stitched to the fabric panel on both sides). The resulting 3-D fabric surface is translucent and fuzzy. The figurative inset panel of the stylized chick and waves is reconfigured from a vintage Japanese yukata (summer kimono). The blue and white pattern emulates shibori, but is printed, not hand-dyed. The top and bottom borders are soft, uneven fringes.
