About NexAir Avionics

Founded on the principles of innovation, convenience, performance, value, and service

With avionics making a big impact in the aviation industry, we believe in education prior to the sale. Not all customers need the very latest in technology depending on the way they operate their aircraft. The company specializes in the new wave of avionics and can help customers determine what systems would best fit their aircraft.

NexAir Avionics was founded by Dave Fetherston and is a Certified FAA Avionics Repair Station representing all the major Avionics Manufacturers.

Dave is not new to Aviation, starting his career in the late 70s as an aircraft mechanic on the Sikorsky Blackhawk production line. Working into the engineering field, Dave has worked for several Defense contractors as a program manager on key military projects. In 1994 Dave co-founded Altair Avionics to bring engine monitoring technology to the aviation industry. The company grew to 27 people before it was sold to Pratt & Whitney Canada in 2001. Dave stayed on to run the Engineering department until early 2007 when he left to start NexAir Avionics. Dave is a licensed mechanic, instrument pilot and is rated in both airplanes and helicopters. He also owns a 1941 Stearman biplane so flying is definitely in his blood.

When Dave started Altair Avionics he recognized a need in aviation to provide engine diagnostics and today the industry has this equipment standard in most turbine powered aircraft. When he started NexAir Avionics Dave also sees a need for a shop that truly understands the new “digital” world of avionics.

NexAir Avionics operates out of the east side of the Mansfield Airport in new hangars that were built in 2005. All the employees and owners of NexAir are pilots and the place is open from 8AM to 6PM, usually 7 days a week. Weekends are usually busy with people coming and going and lots of interesting planes to see. People are welcome to come by and have a “no pressure” chat about avionics.

We also own and operate a fully modified Cessna Skyhawk with all the latest hardware. Come fly the Cessna and get the feel of the new products available.

If you bring some nice weather when you come, you could find yourself in the front seat of a 300HP Stearman.
