"The annual Drift Art Festival includes a wide range of arts and community-based events that occur in galleries, businesses, restaurants, cafes, community organizations and public spaces along Main Street from Industrial to 33rd. The dynamism of the Drift festival attracts visitors that are economically and culturally diverse; children, youth, adults and seniors; local, regional and international visitors; business owners and patrons; cultural producers as well as cultural consumers." - The Drift

Monika Stooss from Switzerland

July 24 to 26, 2010

Birkeland Bros. was honoured to have a famous felter from Switzerland,
Monika Stooss visit us and be our guest artist in the following courses:

Felted Boots

Felted Skirt

Felted Top

Monika Stooss has pioneered the use of felting for fashion,
as well as for therapeutic purposes in social pedagogy.

To see more about Monika please go to: Spycher-Handwerk
[In German or French, Automated Google Translation only - please forgive the bloopers!]

This website takes you to a wonderful wool family business in Switzerland, where we visited last fall. There are a lot of parallels between Birkeland Bros. and the Graedel family in Switzerland. Their background is in farming and they keep a herd of sheep, camels,
lamas, wool pigs, and ducks - and are able to run carding machines and warehouses
on their own farm. This is also where we first met Monika Stooss.

Car-Free Day

In June in 2010 and 2011 Birkeland Bros. opened the shop for Main Street's Car-Free Day with a huge spin-in, knit-in, crochet-in, weave-in, and felt-in.

We hope you had fun giving your favourite activity a spin!

DIY @ Museum of Vancouver

On April 9, 2010,The Museum of Vancouver hosted a social crafting night,
in conjunction with the exhibition Art of Craft.
Over 300 people attended!

Birkeland Bros. did demonstrations and hands-on workshops on spinning, felting, or weaving.
The knit-pit was a hot spot for new and experienced knitters alike.

We had fun and we hope those who attended did so as well.
Birkeland Bros. wishes to thank The Museum of Vancouver for this wonderful event.
