About The Icon and Book Service
Thanks for your interest in The Icon and Book Service.
The Icon and Book Service has been in business since the 1950's as a non-profit organization started by the Russian Jesuits after they had to leave China when the Communists invaded. The name at that time was the Russian Center which was located on the campus of Fordham University. And it was there that they started the Icon and Book Service to provide books dealing with the Eastern Churches to the public. In the 1960s the name was changed to the John XXIII Ecumenical Center and the Icon and Book Service continued and expanded its inventory.
After the John XXIII Ecumenical Center closed in the late 1980s, the Icon and Book Service was moved to Washington, DC and became the main support of the Monastery of the Holy Cross, a small Eastern Greek Catholic monastery under the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia. Although we are small we have always tried to provide the largest and most comprehensive selection of Eastern Christian books, religious articles, recordings, icons, incense and Church Supplies.
Being small, there is no way we can keep in stock all of the items we have availability to at any given time. (This is especially true of items that come from university presses and overseas.) If we need to back order your request we will try to let you know as soon as possible. Your payment will not go through until we know that the item is coming in to us. In some cases we may be able to arrange for a drop shipment directly from the supplier.
PRICES ON ANY BOOK CAN CHANGE AT ANY TIME. IF YOU ORDER A BOOK, AND WE FIND THE PRICE HAS CHANGED, WE WILL CONTACT YOU BEFORE PLACING THE ORDER.
We will be adding extra features over the next few months, so come back regularly.

As a Non-profit, we try to take care of all our own expenses as well as being the main support of our Monastery. With the economic times being what they are, we have recently seen a turn-down in our sales. If you would like to help us out with a tax deductible donation, in any amount, you can make out a check to the Monastery of the Holy Cross and send it care of the Icon and Book Service address above. If you would like to make a donation toward a more specific need, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your generosity.
