The Purple Monkey came about because one of the two owners is allergic to just about anything and everything she's ever put on her skin. The other owner has "skin like an alligator" in spots, and petroleum-based lotions and potions just made it worse. Since they both use soap every day, they figured that if they made their own soap (and therefore, knowing what was actually IN it), they'd be much better off. They made a couple of experimental batches. The soaps turned out great, so they made more. People asked about them, and samples were shared. People raved! Whole bars were given as gifts at Christmas, then others started asking, "Do you sell that wonderful soap? Can I get some more?" Since then, other products have been brainstormed...lip balms, body butters, lotions, muscle balm, insect balm...the list started growing. We hope you find some benefit in our all-natural, mostly vegan product line. We certainly do.
