Told in word, photograph, and drawing is the story of the remarkable men and the equally remarkable railroad they built into the city of Pittsburgh at the turn of the 20th Century.
WABASH PITTSBURGH TERMINAL RAILWAY. 2004 by Howard V. Worley, Jr. "One hundred years have passed since that Wednesday morning in June 1904 when a lone wooden railroad passenger car, pushed by a vintage coal burning locomotive, crossed over the new Monongahela river bridge at Pittsburgh to the new flatiron passenger station, officially connecting the Wabash Railroad to the city. This simple event, without planned ceremony, capped a four year struggle against great odds, both natural and man made, for the railroad to enter downtown Pittsburgh. The saga is one of fame and fortune, disasters and misfortunes, with the major players including millionaires, railroad tycoons, industrialists, United States Senators and Congressmen, and even a Vice President of the United States. Named the Wabash Pittsburgh Terminal Railway, the railroad was the brainchild of Pittsburgher Joseph Ramsey, Jr. who, along with other local men, conceived and built this landmark railroad to Pittsburgh. Here, between the covers of this book, told in word, photograph, and drawing is the story of those remarkable men and the equally remarkable railroad they built into the city at the turn of the 20th Century." Published to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Wabash Railroad's entry into Pittsburgh, this book has more than 180 photographs, drawings and other materials. ISBN 0-9658620-1-1. LOC 2003115487. 177 pages, 8 1/2 x 11 Softbound.
