The PITTSBURGH GAZETTE was the first newspaper west of the Allegheny Mountains. This second in a series of five volumes is a day by day story of events from 1797 to 1803, and contains full abstracts from the newspaper of marriages, deaths, runaway slaves and apprentices, court cases, land sales, deserters of the Revolutionary War, lost or strayed animals, new town settlements, advertisements, delinquent tax lists, divorces, etc. These abstracts provide an historical insight to the times and enable researchers to compile more than a mere statistical record of their ancestors.
