Genealogists' resource for deed information for these counties.
INDEX TO THE WARRANT/PATENT MAPS OF FAYETTE, GREENE & WASHINGTON COUNTIES. 2003 compiled by C.G. Frost. The basic procedures used to transfer PA land to private ownership was established during the proprietorship of William Penn. First title to land in Pennsylvania was and is acquired through a five-step process including warrant and patent. The warrant is a written order to survey, and usually restates the amount and location requested in the application, and the patent is the final deed from the proprietor to the purchaser. This index was compiled using Volume 3 of The Horn Papers (now out-of-print). Each county is indexed separately in three parts by grid locations, map number and warrantee to patentee. Copies of the original Warrant/Patent maps for each township indexed in this work can be ordered from the PA Historical Museum Commission in Harrisburg. 131 pages, 8 1/2 x 11 Softbound.
