PENNSYLVANIA RETROSPECTIVE CD-ROM SERIES: FRONTIER FORTS. 2004 by Retrospect Publishing. This CD contains the images of the original pages along with a powerful FULL TEXT search tool for the following books: REPORT OF THE COMMISSION TO LOCATE THE SITE OF THE FRONTIER FORTS OF PENNSYLVANIA, VOL. I AND II. 2nd Edition. (Thomas L. Montgomery, editor; Wm. Stanley Ray, State Printer; Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; 1916). The two volume set entitled FRONTIER FORTS OF PENNSYLVANIA was originally commissioned by the Commonwealth to identify the forts that were erected as a defense against the Indians prior to 1783. This set contains not only an extensive list of Forts and Blockhouses that were erected and used during the frontier days but also captures the rich history of that era with letters and sketches of Indian skirmishes and stories of pioneer life. Often times a Fort or Blockhouse was nothing more than a well built house. The first edition of the FRONTIER FORTS was published in 1896. The differences between the two editions are as follows: the first edition contains color maps and illustrations whereas the second edition contains only black and white maps and illustrations, the second edition also contains additional footnotes and 18 additional pages of appendixes. The color illustrations from the first edition were identical to the B&W illustrations of the second edition and were used whenever possible in the production of this CD-Rom.
